Frequently Asked Questions about Renthelper
Q. Does Renthelper own or manage any rental properties in the Athens, Ohio area? Can I rent property from Renthelper directly?
A. Renthelper staff do not own or manage any rental housing, and are prohibited by our charter from doing so.
Renthelper is first and foremost a public rental directory, and we feel that owning or managing rental properties would compromise our objective position as a provider of current and accurate housing information. It is our mission to provide cutting edge tools and services to allow the free flow of housing information for the benefit and improvement of all.

Q. I was browsing through the Renthelper website and it mentioned 'List View'. What is List View?
A. The Renthelper Directory contains well over 3000 address listings of various types and amounts of detail. This mountain of information is best shown in a compact list format that quickly shows important elements without taking up too much space.
The most common List View looks like this:
reverse
bedrooms
address
rent
period
distance
utilities
parking
pets
contact

For Rent, 1 Infinite Loop, Athens, Oh More...

Blue, underlined text is actually a link that can tell the Renthlper system to perform a different task. Clicking on any of the criteia titles (ex. Bedrooms , Rent, Period...) will tell the List to resort itself based on that criteria. So clicking on Rent will cause the list to resort by the amount of Rent. Clicking on Pets will make the list resort by whether the address accepts pets, yes or no.
Clicking on the Contact Name will bring up a Manager Report, and list all properties in the Renthelper Directory that are registered to that contact. More detailed contact information is also provided in the Manager Report.
To get more detail about an individual property you can click on More..., this will bring up the Item View for that property.

Q. I also saw 'Item View' mentioned. What is Item View?
A. Despite how useful and efficient the List View is at presenting information it does have its drawbacks. Lots of information is crammed into a small space and some long forms of information must be left out for the sack of brevity. Item View is a way of showing an individual address listing and providing more information in an easier to read and understand format.
The most common Item View looks like this:

Q. What is a Username?
A. A Username is a "nickname" you select. It identifies you at Renthelper and allows you to access your Renthelper Account and use Renthlper.net services.

Q. What if I forget my User ID?
A. No problem. Fill out the simple Forgot my Username or Password form and both will be emailed to you.

Q. Can I choose my own Usernames?
A. Yes! Here's your chance to choose your own unique nickname. Here are some ideas if you're stuck:

* Use a word or words identifying your favorite collecting area, business or occupation.
* Or you could refer to your hometown or state and call yourself something like "College_Boy" or "Georgia_Peach".
* Maybe you'd like to refer to your own sense of style and use an ID like "StraightA" or "DeansList."

Just remember that Usernames:

* May contain letters (a-z), numbers (0-9), underscores '_' and dashes.
* Must be at least two (2) characters long.
* Are case sensitive.
* Can't contain spaces. These will be replaced with underscores '_'.
* Can't be obscene, profane or hateful.

Things you can't use include:

* The "@" (at) symbol.
* The "&" (ampersand) symbol.
* The word, "renthelper." Only Renthelper employees may use "renthelper" in their Usernames. This is to prevent non-employees from masquerading as employees.

Q. Can I change my Username?
A. No. You may not change your Username. Your Username plays an important part in keeping track of Renthelper services and insuring that they always work properly. If you experience problems with your current Username please contact the Renthelper Support Staff and we'll be happy to work out a solution.

Q. Can anyone else have the same Username?
A. No. A Username must be unique. In the real world, there can be thousands of people named "Robert." At Renthelper, only one person can have "Robert" as a Username.

Q. How do I find the email address of someone with a Username?
A. This is easy. Simply click on that person's Username wherever it appears as a link. This will automatically generate a details report with contact information.

Q. Can Renthelper change my User ID?
A. Renthelper reserves the right to modify, alter or suspend any Username at any time (at our sole discretion and without notice) for any reason whatsoever.

Q. Does Renthelper keep track of all my Account Information changes?
A. No. If you choose to change the contact information that you use in your Renthelper Account then that is your business. However, abuse of the system will not be tolerated and can lead to suspension of priviledges.

Q. Can I change my registered email address?
A. No. You cannot change your registered email address. Just as your Username must be unique in the system, so must your email address.

Q. What if I am offended by someone else's Username?
A. Feel free to contact Renthelper Support Staff with your complaint. Renthelper does not allow obscenities, profanity or hateful language in Usernames.

Q. I've got an idea. I'm going to register additional Username addresses to reserve Usernames! I'll even sell them!
A. Renthelper does not allow this. Please don't register additional Username addresses in order to sell them later.

Q. What is the Renthelper eNewsletter?
A. Periodically Renthelper will publish new articles and resources to the website, and this information can be emailed to you in the form of an email newsletter. The eNewsletter will be published no more then once a week and is a service to keep you informed of developments here at the site, new features or partnerships. The Renthelper eNewsletter is totally different from the Housing Update Reports that are sent at your request by your Renthelper Account.

Q. I've noticed that many listings in the Renthelper Directory only have occupancy, address and manager/owner contact information. Where is all the other information?
A. Address, occupancy and contact information are a matter of public record and have been painstakingly culled from the files of the Athens City Office of Code Enforcement. This basic information is provided by Renthelper free to the public for all rental properties registered with the Athens City Office of Code Enforcement. All other information must be provided by the property owner, manager, or resident, depending on type of listing/classified.
For Rent and Room for Rent listings placed by owners or property managers are a paid service.
Housemate Wanted and Subleaser Wanted listings/classifieds are a free service provided by Renthelper.

Q. In browsing through the Renthelper Directory I found a listing that has wrong or outdated information. What should I do? Should I call the Athens City Office of Code Enforcement and complain?
A. If you have found information that you know is wrong or outdated, please
contact us with the details. Please include as much information as possible. It is our intention and desire to provide correct and up-to-date information on all records in our Directory. Renthelper staff regularly review the many records in the online Directory to ensure accuracy.
Do not call the Athens City Office of Code Enforcement with complaints regarding information or service found at this website. They are not responsible or affiliated with Renthelper (www.Renthelper.net) in any way. While information is gathered from their official records, this information is then kept in a private database and managed by Renthelper employees only.

Q. I am a rental property owner/manager and my property is not listed in your Renthelper Directory. How can I get my property, or properties, listed?
A. Address, legal occupancy, and contact information for all properties registered to the Athens City Office of Code Enforcement are provided free of charge as a service of Renthelper. If you find that a property that you manage or own is not listed please feel free to send us this basic information and we will add it to our Directory. All such submissions will be double checked against the official Code Enforcement records at 28 Curran, Athens Ohio. If a property is not registered with the Athens City Office of Code Enforcement, and does not have an official record, it is not eligible for a free basic listing. However, any property is eligible for a paid detailed listing.
